REBECCA L. HARGROVE is an actress, soprano, and producer. Her career spans theatre, opera, film, and television. In recognition of her artistry, she was named The Artists Forum’s 2025 Artist of the Year.
Most recently, Rebecca returned to Baltimore Center Stage as Tiana Wing in the world premiere of Preston Crowder’s Bocking, presented by Lena Waithe and directed by Stevie Walker-Webb. Critics praised her comedic timing, physicality, and commanding stage presence. She previously appeared at Baltimore Center Stage as Mrs. Webb in Thornton Wilder’s Our Town.

A member of The Metropolitan Opera Extra Chorus since the 2019–20 season, Rebecca is a two-time Grammy Award winner for Best Opera Recording for Porgy and Bess and Fire Shut Up in My Bones. She has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, David Geffen Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Shanghai Symphony Hall. As a recording artist, she can be heard as The Mother in Joseph C. Phillips Jr.’s mono-opera The Grey Land and as a member of Voix Noir on Terence Blanchard’s score for The Woman King.
Out of a desire to see more positive and expansive images of Black life on screen, Rebecca and Kedren Spencer co-founded KSRH Productions LLC. Together, they create and produce stories celebrating Black love, excellence, and joy while challenging stereotypes and monolithic portrayals of the Black experience.

Their first short film, Last Call, won the Audience Choice Award at the New Faces New Voices Film Festival; Audience Choice, Best Actress, and Best Original Score at The Artists Forum Festival of the Moving Image; and Best Romantic Comedy Film at the Atlanta Women’s Comedy Film Festival. It was also an official selection of the Los Angeles Black Film Festival.
